The reality of Paradise is something which people will never be able to understand until they will not enter it, but Allah has shown us a glimpse of it in the Quran. He described it as a place essentially different from life in this world, as the purpose of life and delights which people will enjoy it. The Quran tells people about Paradise, which offers them Allah, describes its great blessings, and proclaims it the most beautiful of all.
The Quran informs people that Paradise is one of the two ways of life prepared for them in the afterlife, and that all good things will be presented there to the extent that we can not even imagine. The Quran also shows that Paradise is a place where all blessings have been created perfect and where people will be offered everything their souls and hearts desire, people will be far removed from want and need, anxiety, sadness, sorrow and regret. All the beauty and blessings are in Paradise, which will open in perfect form, which nobody has ever seen or known before. In Paradise, Allah has prepared such blessings as a gift, and they will be available only to those people whom He is pleased.
But what is the nature of these delights in Paradise, and how they differ from the delights of this world? We will try to highlight some of these differences.
Pure pleasure without pain and suffering
In worldly life, though people and experience the delight and joy, they also face difficulties and sufferings. It is obvious that the number of difficulties faced by the people, is much more in comparison with the joys. As for life in the future, there will be no hardship nor suffering, and people will live a life of joy and delight. All the causes of sorrow, pain and suffering which people experience in this life will come to an end in Paradise.
When a person thinks about success in this life, it is usually in the imagination of a large house, jewelry, luxury clothing, expensive cars, financial stability - all this is seen as the key to a happy life. For most people, success is inseparably linked with wealth, even though this is the most distant view from the truth. How many times have we seen the wealthiest of people living such miserable lives, that it even leads them to suicide.
“Circulated among them will be plates and vessels of gold. And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally”. (The Quran, 43:71)
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past”. (The Quran, 69:24)
“Those will have gardens of perpetual residence; beneath them rivers will flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on adorned couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place”. (The Quran, 18:31)
Illness and death
Another cause of pain and suffering in this life is the death of a loved one or disease, which do not exist in Paradise. Nobody feels illness, and pain in Paradise. The prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him) said about the people of Paradise:
“In paradise they will not spit or blow their noses or defecate”. (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
Nobody dies in Paradise. Everyone will live forever, enjoying the pleasures. As the Prophet, may Allah bless him and so welcomed, included in the Paradise will be welcomed with the words:
“Truly, always be healthy and never get sick, live and never die, be young and do not be old age suffer, enjoy and never felt sorrow and regret”. (Sahih Muslim)
With regard to suffering because of the gap in personal relationships, people will never hear evil or insulting statements in Paradise. They will only hear good words. Allah says:
“They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - Only a saying: "Peace, peace”. (The Quran, 56:25-26)
In Paradise there will be no enmity between people nor cruelty:
“And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, "Praise to Allah , who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth." And they will be called, "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do”. (The Quran, 7:43)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“In Paradise there will be no hatred or resentment among the people, their hearts will be as one, and they will glorify Allah morning and evening”. (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
In a future life, people will have the best of friends, who were also the best people in the world:
“And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger - those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions”. (The Quran, 4:69)
Hearts of the people of Paradise will be pure, their speech will be good, their deeds righteous. Paradise is free from all the useless words and deeds.
