Night in which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) met with jinn and read to them the verses of the Holy Qur'an, called "Night of the jinn". This happened three years before the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina.
According to legend, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was commanded to summon the jinn to the truth, Allah Almighty sent a group of jinn to him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) addressing to the Sahaba, said: "Tonight, at the behest of Allah, I am going to read the Quran for the jinn. Who of you will go with me?" Abdullah ibn Masud (radiallahu anhu) volunteered to go with him. So he told us about what happened that night: "We hit the trail and came to the valley Hadzhun. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) outlined the line next to me and told me not to go beyond it, until he returns. Then he went to them and began to read the verses of the Holy Quran. Then I saw some birds like eagles went down to him, and then heard a loud crashing. I began to feel that something bad happens with the Messenger of Allah. After I saw as the darkness enveloped all that was me and him, and I stopped to hear his voice. Then at dawn they started to disappear, like clouds in the sky.
Having come up to me, the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked me whether I was asleep or not. To which I said, "No! Several times I thought it was someone to call for help, but every time I hear your call to them to "sit!" Calm down". Then he said: "I'm not sure that if you disobeyed, went beyond the traits they have not taken you". Then he asked me what I saw. I said that I saw blacks, dressed in white clothes. On this the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "It was Nusaibin jinns, they asked me for food, and I told them that they can eat the bones and dung. When I asked about crashing, he said: "They asked me to judge the death of one of them, and I judged them to justice".
The number of Jinn, gathered at this moment, according to legend, was twelve thousand. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) read them Surah Al-Alak.
The existence of different stories regarding the number of Jinn, who saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the name of their tribes shows us that the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw them not once, but at least six. (Tafsirun-Nafasi wa Tafsirul-Alusi, in Tafseer Sura Ahkaf, verse 29)
