Although Islam does not set strict rules in this, the following examples from the Qur'an and Sunnah indicate that sleeping together is preferable.
1) The punishment set by the Quran for women who do not behave in family life properly - leaving their bed.
If leaving the bed is a punishment, it can be assumed that sleeping on a bed - this a rule.
Also hadith which narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) lying together with their wives, even when they were menstruating can be considered an indication of a preference for spouses to sleep together.
2 ) It is also practical and verbal Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), which encourages affection even without intimacy, can be regarded as an indication of the spouses to sleep in one bed.
But all does not prove rigor given instructions. Consenting spouse can sleep separately. The following hadith in which the woman is presented as a separate owner of the bed, can be regarded as proof of admissibility for the spouses to sleep separately.
Worshipful Jabir (radyyallahu anhu) narrates:
"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
(In the house without children) may be three beds - one for husband, one for wife, the third for guest. Fourth bed is for Shaytan".
