Can human life be extended or shortened? Is it true, if you frequently visit relatives and give sadaqah human life is extended?
There are several hadith that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) informs us that visiting relatives, as well as to give sadaqa, it is not only pleasing to God, but moreover, prolongs the life of man. Giving Sadaqah and visit relatives, prolongs life and corrects what destroyed", - said the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Kab (R.A.) said, "Allah Almighty so loved the righteous Caliph Umar (R.A.) that if he had asked to extend his life, then the Creator would perform this request. Once Umar (R.A.) greatly offended, and if at this moment he read Dua and asked Allah to delay him the hour of death, the Creator would have done it". Then he read this verse of Sura 11 Munafikun: "But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do".
And then: "Everything moves within a certain time limit is predetermined. All this creates Allah the Great, who organizes your business". (The Quran, 35:13)
However, according to some scholars, these hadith and the expression is necessary to understand not in the literal sense of the word. "Extends the life" in this case, should be perceived as an increase in food and enrichment of its spiritual side of life.
Just as poverty can mean death. Allah Almighty has notified the Prophet Musa (A.S.) that he would kill one of his slaves. When Musa (A.S.) saw the man alive, he (S.A.) asked the Creator why He didn't take his life. The Almighty and Wise answered: "Here I turned him into a beggar". That is, people like a dead man, deprived of everything, though, at the same time and live physically.
